I often say I’ve lived many lives—but in many ways, this one feels like it was always meant to find me.

I grew up right here in Butler, Pennsylvania, and some of my earliest memories include walking past this very home—never imagining that one day, I would become its steward. My grandmother lived just around the corner, and she often shared stories of when Main Street was bustling with life—followed by quieter years that changed the rhythm of the town.

When the opportunity came to purchase this home, I didn’t just see a property—I saw a chance to be part of something meaningful. To invest in the area, to honor its history, and to contribute to the revitalization of a place that had always been part of my story. And today, it’s incredibly special to watch that energy returning.

Long before I owned Suite Retreat, this home welcomed guests for over two decades as the beloved Step Back In Time Bed & Breakfast. And even beyond these walls, hospitality runs deep in my family—my great-great-grandmother operated a boarding house just a few blocks away. Creating spaces for others to gather, rest, and feel at home is simply in my blood.

I’ve now had the honor of owning and caring for this home for the past eight years—continuing its legacy while thoughtfully guiding it into its next chapter.

Part of that journey has been my love for design.

Blending historic charm with modern comfort has been one of the most meaningful parts of bringing Suite Retreat to life. What was once a basement filled with antiques is now an intimate speakeasy. A former dining room has been reimagined into a warm and welcoming billiard room. Along the way, I’ve collaborated with a dear friend across the street—also a fellow innkeeper—who helped bring thoughtful details to life, from the rich, immersive tones of the Blue Room to curated touches like the Beauty Bar.

Every update has been done with intention—to honor the history of the home while elevating the experience for today’s guests.

My path has also taken me through real estate, wellness, and community-building, including founding the Oldest City Arts & Wellness Lounge in St. Augustine. No matter where life has led, one thing has remained constant: a deep love for people and the spaces that bring them together.

Suite Retreat is more than a historic home—it’s a continuation of stories that have been unfolding here for generations.

For over two decades, this home welcomed guests as the beloved Step Back In Time Bed & Breakfast, known not only for its warm hospitality, but also for its charming traditions—like formal tea service and a thoughtfully curated collection of antiques that filled the home with character and history.

When Shelby took ownership, her vision was to honor that legacy while thoughtfully guiding the home into its next chapter.That story extends far beyond these walls.Butler itself carries a rich and often overlooked legacy of innovation and industry—from the birthplace of the Bantam Jeep to the production of Pullman railcars that once connected people across the country. That spirit of movement, gathering, and connection is deeply woven into the identity of this place.You’ll find those stories reflected throughout the home.

Each suite has been thoughtfully named to honor both family legacy and local history:

Reiber’s R&R pays tribute to Shelby’s great-great-grandmother, who operated a boarding house just down the street—continuing a lineage of hospitality that lives on today.

The Bantam Bungalow is a nod to Butler’s role in developing the first Jeep, celebrating the town’s spirit of innovation and adventure.

The Pullman Pad honors the era of Pullman railcars once produced in the area, symbolizing travel, connection, and the journeys that bring people together.

Throughout Suite Retreat, you’ll notice a thoughtful balance of preservation and reinvention—from the speakeasy tucked into the lower level to reimagined gathering spaces designed for connection, celebration, and comfort.This is a home that honors where it came from—while creating space for new memories to be made.
